Dr. Tina Alston has over 25 years of experience in the field of psychotherapy. She received both her PhD (Developmental Psychology) and MA (Early Childhood Education) from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Her undergraduate work was at Rhodes College in Memphis.
Her early teaching work involved Head Start, Day Care and Special Education. Later she helped open one of the first drug abuse centers in the state-Memphis House. During this period she taught psychology and education at colleges along with training substance abuse professionals. Other work in human resources involved four years in a telecommunications company featured for three years on the INC 500 of successful small businesses.
Before moving to East Tennessee Tina was director of the family program for Vietnam veterans conducting outreach to families of veterans whose children suffered from developmental disabilities which could be attributed to their father's exposure to Agent Orange. At this vet center she worked with families, women's support groups and group therapy for recovering addicts, formerly homeless veterans.
In this area she has worked as a therapist at Cornerstone of Recovery and Peninsula Lighthouse Outpatient Program in Knoxville. Currently in addition to her therapy practice Tina is a Starbucks employee (as well as a patron!)
Re-Creation activities include telling stories, sending CARE packages to her granddaughter in D.C. going on long walks in the woods with family and friends including her dog Billy. Her avocation for more than 20 years was professional storytelling including work in Great Britain and Jonesborough Tennessee.
